One of the most popular prayers is “bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies.” But, probably THE most popular prayer may be, “Lord, be with me as I…” My question is, why do we ask someone to be with us when they are already with us?
Perhaps, as Christians, we still haven’t grasped one of the most amazing and glorious truths about the Christian life: that God is with us ALWAYS.
NEVER ALONE
Joshua 1:9 says “This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
We cannot get away from Him even if we wanted to. Psalm 139:7-10 says “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, you right hand will hold me fast.”
The moment you welcomed Jesus to be Lord of your life – he moved in forever. He became a permanent resident in you. Your body became a temple of God and He promised that He would “abide with you forever.” (John 14:16)
THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
This is a gift from your Heavenly Father – the gift of the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is living inside of you. That is some powerful stuff. And, He is already with YOU. The Holy Spirit dwells within YOU!
As Dr. Michael Cloer says “You do not need to pray for His presence; you need to practice His presence. There is not a place you go without Him:… the Living Lord Jesus Christ is closer to you than you realize.”
